Former MPs paid out more than $200m by taxpayers since 2000 in lucrative pension payments

Taxpayers have paid more than $200 million in lucrative pension payments to former politicians since the program was closed off to new members at the beginning of the century.

Despite cost-of-living pressures mounting for families, West Australians will fork out more than $50m over the next five years to former politicians eligible to stay on the taxpayer dollar, sparking calls to means-test the lucrative scheme.
