Broome Towns Sport Club are the 2024 West Kimberley Football League Premiers after defeating the Cable Beach by 29 points in an emotionally charged victory.
Cable Beach lost the chance of five consecutive wins after their defeat at the hands of Towns.
The 2024 Premiers got off to a valiant head start with a first quarter score of 31 to Cable Beach’s one point.
Through strategic coaching Cable Beach managed to put 22 points on the score board in quarter two, tightening the competition to 23 to Broome Towns 37 at half time.
The closeness in score continued after half-time, with just 11 points separating the arch rivals at the end of the third quarter, Cable Beach 32 to Towns’ 43.
Dramatic scenes unfurled across the field halfway through the fourth quarter with Broome Towns player Brennan Stack Sr sustaining a lung injury that required hospital treatment, and stopped the match for about 30 minutes.
Despite the loss of a key player, Towns galvanised for the remainder of the match, securing the match 62 to 33 at the final siren.
Towns coach Andrew Blackley said the win was heightened by their grand final loss to Cable Beach last year.
He commended his players for representing Broome Towns “beautifully”, saying securing the win was an “amazing feeling”.
The premiership coach said injuries had been the biggest challenge of the season, considering there were no reserves.
“I even had to play one game this season,” Blackley said.
He spoke of the unifying impact the diverse team have had both on and off the field.
“Even when I started back in the 90s there has always been the notion that it doesn’t matter where you are from, or what you do, everyone is close,” Blackley said.
